Costumes of Delhi

The traditional costumes of Delhi are churidar or salwar kameez for women, and kurtas and pyjamas for men. On formal occasions like marriages, women wear saris whereas men adorn themselves with sherwani or western suits. The everyday office wear of Delhi for the professional men consists of either short or long sleeve formal shirts having front buttons, complemented by formal trousers. Wearing front buttoned, long sleeve cotton shirts is very common among Delhi professionals.
Sometimes they wear a tie on the shirt. Delhi is a trendy city and here youth and adolescents are very fashion conscious. They wear polo-shirts, T-shirts, full length cargo pants and jeans. The wealthy among them go for designer wear.
We know that Delhi has linguistic and cultural diversity in its population. People from different states have come and migrated to Delhi for education, business, career, etc. and along with them, they have also brought their culture, languages, dressing style, etc. So you find pockets of diversity in the costumes of Delhi, which complements the mainstream wear, as mentioned in the above para. We find some people in Delhi wearing the costumes related to their own culture and tradition, though most of the Delhites wear the typical cosmopolitan look of Delhi in their costumes.A section of the Punjabi population residing in Delhi is seen in a typical Punjabi costume. Males wear a lungi i.e. a long cloth that is wrapped around the waist, a long kurta on the top, and a turban on their head that is called the pagdi.
Females wear a typical Punjabi dress called the salwar kameez. The salwar has a loose fit and many pleats, called the Patiala style. They cover their heads with the dupatta.
Many Bengalis in Delhi, specially on formal occasions like Durga Puja, wear a big kurta on the top and a dhoti below. Bengali women wear saris in a typical Bengali style. They fill their foreheads with sindoor or vermillion and apply big kumkum on their foreheads. Some men in Delhi can be easily identified of their Gujarati lineage through their costumes. They are seen wearing a kurta, and a dhoti with a dupatta in their neck. Gujarati females wear saris in a typical Gujarati style.
Overall, the costumes of Delhi have multiple facets of cultural and ethnic identities despite its predominantly global look.

IT, hotels, banking and tourism sectors are the pillars of Delhi's services sector. In fact, Delhi is now becoming one of the major destinations of information technology (IT) in India. All the major multinational players in IT such as the Google, Sony, IBM, Microsoft, have their offices in the NCR and Delhi city.
BPO business in Delhi is also been going through a growth phase, which is evident by the mushrooming of call centers. With the advent of liberalization, a lot many multinational conglomerates have set up their shops in Delhi, and this is reflected in the surge of growth of its manufacturing industry over the years. Delhi's most important manufacturing industries are readymade garments and electronic industries. Here it deserves a mention that the retail industry of Delhi is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Delhi is an important trading center in India. The government of Delhi is initiating many industrial policies with the aim to promote industrial growth in the city.This is to achieve optimum level of production using less power and space, which in turn will generate employment opportunities for the skilled as well as the unskilled labourers of the city.
Delhi is not very rich in agriculture, however there are a few agricultural lands present in some sections of the city. The important crops that are grown in Delhi are gram, wheat, jowar and bajra. Another profit gaining industry in Delhi is the animal husbandry. Delhi has adequate production of dairy items that is enough to meet the needs of consumption in Delhi and also outside Delhi. Delhi is a city having limited mineral resources and it is not rich in raw materials, as well.

Places to see in Bangalore

The throne of the great warrior Tipu Sultan and then the rule of the East India Company are to name a few among them. The city therefore not only has pleasant weather and modern way of living to attract visitors but also holds historic importance. There are a lot of places to see in Bangalore. From temples to museums, from malls to entertainment places, from parks and zoos to a national park, the city has it all.
Lalbagh Gardens: Haider Ali laid out the garden while Tipu Sultan added plants and trees for other countries. The place has over 1800 species of tropical, sub tropical, medicinal and floral plants. One of the four Kempe Gowda tower is located in this garden. Flower shows are organized here in Republic Day and Independence Day weeks.
Cubbon Park: It is located in the cantonment of the city. The high court state library and museums are also located here apart from fountains, bandstand and statues.
Aquarium: Located on Kasturba Gandhi road, this place has an excellent fresh water collection. A fish restaurant and fresh fish stalls surround the place. Government Museum: Established in 1886, it is one of the oldest museums in the country. It has 18 galleries comprising of Neolithic finds from various civilizations, antique jewellery, textiles, coins, art and miniature paintings among other reserves.
Venkatappa Art Gallery: This place displays the works of painter Venkatappa, wood sculptor Rajaram, Hebbar and many others.
Vishveswaraya Industrial and Technological Museum: It includes vintage steam engine of Maharatha railways and India's oldest combat aircraft. The trade center next door has a permanent exhibition of the state produces. The Bull temple: The temple was built at Basavangudi in the Kempe Gowda period in 16th century. The monolithic Nandi bull made of grey granite polished with mixture of groundnut oil and charcoal is believed to have grown and now measures nearly 5m in height and over 6m in length. Tipu's Summer Palace: This palace, started by Haider Ali and completed by Tipu Sultan in 1789 is a two storeyed ornate structure. Substantial woodwork and ceilings painted in bright colors and beautiful carvings add to the beauty of the place. Venkataramanasvami Temple: The new Maharaja of Wodeyar dynasty is believed to have worshipped in this temple before entering the temple after the restoration of the throne. Bangalore Palace: Inspired by Windsor Castle, the palace is only open for the public for a week in November
